FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police have cracked a Christmas caper.

Someone had stolen holiday decorations from people's yards in Fayetteville. But with both hope and time running out, officers recovered everything just in time for the holidays.

Dozens of holiday decorations recently were stolen from the yard of the Baldwin family.

"I couldn't believe it," Frances Baldwin said. "(It) looked like somebody had gone through the yard or something, and I came out, and I'm like: 'Oh, my God. My stuff is missing.'"

The Baldwins said it took them three weeks to put up their decorations, which included angels, snowmen and hundreds of lights. But, the Baldwins were not the only people victimized by Grinches.

Kenneth Kirkman's Santa and reindeer also took off in the middle of the night.

"I didn't know what to think," he said.

Amazingly, a few days later, Kirkman found the decorations on someone else's house, so he called police. Authorities found the decorations from Kirkman and the Baldwins.

Officers were not available to comment on the case. But police told the families that some college students were committing the crimes as a prank.

There was no word Wednesday on whether anyone will be charged.

Kirkman said he will decorate again next year. The Baldwins said they will set up their decorations again this year.
