Rumsfeld admits the armed forces are stretched thin. For example, the 82nd Airborne Division has 14,000 soldiers, of which 9,000 are deployed.
The 82nd Airborne Division also plans to send more soldiers after the holidays.
"There's really not much you can do. It's our duty and something we've got to deal with," said Pfc. Shawn Carroll, of the 82nd Airborne Division.
The 82nd Airborne Division also had the highest number of casualties of any Fort Bragg-based unit, more than the 18th Airborne and Special Operations.
Rumsfeld said he is looking for ways to relieve stress on the military, but he will not go into details.
