DOT Proposes Change At Carthage Intersection

Posted Updated

CARTHAGE, N.C. — The Department of Transportation wants changes at a Carthage intersection following a deadly crash in November.

Jennifer Kiser died Nov. 6 when she pulled out in front of a dump truck on 15-501 and Union Church Road.

In a new report, the police chief said the 17-year old should have been able to see the truck, despite a restaurant's sign near the road that some said causes motorists to inch closer to the road to get a full view of oncoming traffic.

The report also said the truck driver was not speeding.

The DOT recommends the town put up a traffic light at the intersection.

Commissioners will look at the town's sign ordinances in January to see if any changes need to be made.
