Family Members: Woman Killed In Murder-Suicide Was Stalked By Ex-Boyfriend

SANFORD, N.C. — Family members and a friend of a young woman shot to death near a local college are speaking out. The victim reportedly believed her ex-boyfriend was stalking her.

Grief counselors were on campus Tuesday at Central Carolina Community College in Sanford the day after a deadly murder-suicide.

Witnesses say Greg Schultz was waiting for his ex-girlfriend, Rosa Speagle, Monday after she got out of her class at the Fitness Building. Witnesses say Schultz grabbed Speagle by the hair at gunpoint and took her into the woods.

David Jernigan, Rosa's friend, said he was at the college campus when Schultz took Speagle at gunpoint.

"I was thinking how can I get him to look my way and put the gun on me instead of putting it on her," said David Jernigan, Rosa's friend.

Police say Schultz shot Speagle before turning the gun on himself. He died at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Speagle's family is trying to sort out their loss.

"I'm hurting bad. I'm hurting, but I just want this to go ahead and die out," said James Speagle, Rosa's father.

"You don't think it is going to happen to you, but it can," said Betty Speagle, Rosa's mother.

Speagle leaves behind a 5-year-old son, DJ.
