RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Transportation will reopen the eastbound I-40 ramps at U.S. 15-501 in Durham County beginning Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 8 p.m., weather permitting.
The I-40 ramps had been closed at N.C. 54 and U.S. 15-501 periodically since August. The ramp closings were necessary to raise the ramp pavement levels in conjunction with the I-40 widening project.
Ramp work will resume in late winter, 2004, between N.C. 751 and N.C. 55. In the meantime, workers will continue median work on I-40.
Also, the department will open I-40 West to three lanes between N.C. 54 and U.S. 15-501 Thursday, Dec. 4. The additional lane will complete the widening in this section.
