RALEIGH, N.C. — Christmas decorations such as trees and Santas are popping up all over Raleigh, but one group wants to add scripture to a public place in the name of the season.

Last Christmas was the first year there was a Nativity scene in Moore Square. Now the group "Called 2 Action, who had lobbied the City Council for the addition, wants to take it one step further. On Tuesday, members of the group will ask council members to approve adding Biblical scripture to the display.

"We'll have Nativity characters, then next to that, we'll have a banner with scriptures as well as a Christmas greeting," said Called 2 Action member Steve Noble. "We really want to share the true meaning of the season, which is the birth of our savior, Jesus."

Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker said previously he doesn't see any reason why the group couldn't add to the scene. City Attorney Thomas McCormick would make the final decision, but group leaders said they believe they'll get the OK.
