Durham Firefighters Hold Emergency Drill At Former Darryl's Restaurant

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — It looked like Durham firefighters had a real emergency on their hands Monday at a vacant restaurant, but it was only a drill.

Fire crews surrounded the old Darryl's restaurant off Highway 15-501. They are using the empty building for a search-and-rescue training facility.

Firefighters had to find a dummy inside the smoke-filled building and pull it to safety.

On Sunday, they plan a controlled burn and will burn the building down.
