Juvenile Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter In Connection With Sheets' Death

Posted Updated

HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. — The juvenile who admitted shooting Daniel Sheets has been served with a juvenile petition for involuntary manslaughter. The juvenile was released to his parents.

Authorities say Sheets and the juvenile were engaged in "horseplay" on a hunting trip last week when Sheets accidentally was shot in the head.

Sheets was hunting with three other teens in Harnett County when he was shot to death.

The shooter initially told investigators the fatal accident happened while they were hunting deer. But after more questioning, he admitted the gun accidentally went off when he and Sheets were playing around.

District Attorney Tom Lock will decide if any charges should be filed.
