TONIGHT AT 11: Special Report Looks At Speeding In Work Zone

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Have you driven through the construction zone on I-40 lately?

The speed limit through some interstate work zones is 55 miles per hour around the clock. Do you speed through work zones? Yes No

Fourteen miles of the interstate, from the airport to the Durham/Orange County line, is a construction zone. Crews do most of the roadwork at night.

Did you know that, whether crews are working or not, the 55-mile-per-hour speed limit is the law around the clock?

Have you tried to drive 55 through the work zone? When Mark Roberts drove 55 through there, tractor-trailers and passenger cars were just zipping right past.

Troopers say they are getting a lot of complaints that speeding in the I-40 construction zone is out of control.

See what they are doing about it by watching WRAL News tonight at 11.
