NCDOT To Reopen Westbound I-40 Ramps At 15-501 In Durham County

DURHAM COUNTY, N.C. — The state Department of Transportation will reopen thewestbound Interstate 40 ramps at U.S. 15-501 in Durham County Mondaybeginning at 8 p.m., weather permitting.

The DOT will close the eastbound I-40 ramps at U.S. 15-501 (exit 270) the same night. The ramps will remain closed for about 35 days.

During this time, motorists should use the following signed detours:

  • I-40 eastbound motorists needing to exit on U.S. 15-501 (exit 270)should travel to N.C. 54 (Exit 273) to I-40 West to U.S. 15-501 (Exit 270).
  • U.S. 15-501 motorists needing to travel on I-40 East should travelI-40 West to N.C. 86 (exit 266) to I-40 East.
  • Delays should be expected. Local commuters are encouraged to use analternate route.

    The ramp closings are necessary to raise the ramp pavement levels inconjunction with the I-40 widening project.

    NCDOT reminds motorists to obey the posted speed limit of 55 mph, and beaware of construction workers in the work zone.
