Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of the United States Marshal Service, has arrested a man wanted for a murder in Pensacola, Fla.

Omar Franklin Barnes, 24, is accused of killing his cousin, 26-year-old Dean Edward Perry, Oct. 25. He has been wanted by the Pensacola Police Department since Oct. 27.

Authorities believe Barnes has been living in the Fayetteville area since the date of the warrant. Barnes had lived in Fayetteville at one time and was familiar with the area.

Barnes was apprehended Wednesday around 4 p.m., after he had gone to the emergency room of Cape Fear Valley Medical Center seeking medical treatment. The nature of the treatment cannot be disclosed, but he was not suffering from any traumatic injury.

Barnes will be held in the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond until his extradition, which should occur one day this week.
