COATS, N.C. — A man and woman wanted in connection with a homicide last month in Harnett County were arrested Tuesday in Georgia.

Billy Thomas Pearson, a suspect in the Oct. 25 shooting death of William Gary Stephens Jr., was arrested by Madison County, Ga., sheriff's deputies after they received information on the vehicle he was driving.

The vehicle was not the same one Pearson reportedly was driving when he left the shooting scene.

The shooting of Stephens, from Jefferson, Ga., occurred in the front yard of a residence lon Dixon Road in Coats. He was transported to Good Hope Hospital and later flown to Duke, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 11:22 p.m. Oct. 25.
