Task Force Aims To Keep Nightclubs, Customers Safe

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — After deadly night club fires in Chicago and Rhode Island, a special task force was set up to try and keep anything like that from happening in North Carolina.

Operation NET Forces was put together to make sure club owners follow safety regulations.

The nightclub task force is the only one of its kind in the country, combining the efforts of city, county and state agencies so that all bases are covered.

Thursday night, the task force arrived unannounced at three Raleigh hot spots.Task force members check everything from fire exits to crowd capacity to sanitation.

The clubs visited Thursday received written warnings, but no fines were handed out.

The task force said the most common fine is a life safety violation, which means a club has gone over capacity or blocked fire exits.
