RALEIGH, N.C. — On Valentine’s Day at the Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community in Raleigh, 150 residents spent the day packaging meals local charity Stop Hunger Now.

The nonprofit will distribute the packages of rice, soy and dehydrated vegetables to hungry people in Central America, Africa and other locations worldwide.

“Their lives are just enhanced in every way by getting this food. It's a simple thing that does such wonderful things for people around the world,” Springmoor Life Care Chaplain Phyllis Mayo said.

Resident Emily Castrodale said it was a great way to celebrate Valentine's Day.

“It’s so wonderful to be able to do something for all the need there is in the world,” Castrodale said.

Stop Hunger Now volunteers have packaged 55 million meals over the past 14 years.
