CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — There is some new hope for Hope Mills Lake.
The city plans to begin building a new dam at the lake as early as next fall.
People have had to take long detours around the site ever since heavy rains destroyed portions of the old dam and Lakeview Road.
The state has agreed to pay most of the $5.8 million tab. Soon, city leaders expect to choose which of three plans they like best.
