DURHAM, N.C. — A Wake Forest man was fatally injured in a two-vehicle accident late Monday morning in Durham, at the intersection of North Duke Street and Frasier Street.
The accident occurred at 11:02 a.m. A westbound 1994 Oldsmobile driven by James Thomas Villiers, 49, of Charmco Court, Wake Forest, pulled into the path of a northbound 1986 Chevrolet heavy-duty work truck driven by Odilon P. Romo, 35, of Isham Chambers Road in Rougemont.
Police said Villiers was trying to make a left turn onto North Duke Street when the front of the work truck struck the driver's side of his car. The impact caused the car to spin around and come to rest facing east on Frasier Street.
Villiers was taken to Duke University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Romo was treated at the scene for back and neck injuries..
No charges have been filed. But the accident remains under investigation. Police said there is no indication that speed or alcohol were factors in the accident.
The Oldsmobile was a total loss. The truck sustained moderate damage.
