RALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities are searching for clues after two fishermen found a body in Falls Lake early Saturday afternoon.

According to Wake County Sheriff's Office, the two men spotted the body of an unidentified man about a mile from the Ledge Rock Boat Ramp near the Wake-Durham county line around noon.

Authorities have ruled the cause of death as suspicious and said it appeared the body had been in the water for several days.

Because of the size of the lake and recent wind and rainfall, investigators said that the man's remains could have been moved into the lake by floodwaters, or it could have moved from another part of the lake.

Because of the possibilities, authorities said they are checking into any reports of missing persons in the three counties adjoining the lake.

The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner Chapel Hill for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
