ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. — More details are starting to emerge about a deadly hit-and-run accident involving a UNC radio sports reporter.
Raleigh police spotted the vehicle being driven by Rabah Samara nearly seven hours after the crash. He was charged Saturday with driving while impaired. Samara, 26, was charged Monday by the Highway Patrol with felony hit and run and failing to stop with personal injury.
Authorities do not think Samara was driving when the crash occurred, but that he took over after the vehicle stopped at the scene briefly before leaving.
Emily Caveness, 20, of Wilkesboro, was charged with felony hit-and-run in the incident. Authorities believe she was behind the wheel of the Cadillac Escalade when it hit Gates.
