Posted Updated

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — Cumberland County investigators want to know how a woman was critically injured early Sunday morning.

Rolanda Ruth Peets, 33, was airlifted to Duke Medical Center Hospital after a witness saw her tumble out of a large, dark-color sport utility vehicle at Camden and Midpine Roads just before 5 a.m.

Detectives are not sure if Peets was thrown from or jumped out of the vehicle. They said her injuries do not appear to have been caused by the impact of the road and she may have been beaten inside the vehicle.

Witnesses said Peets had left a Waffle House restaurant in Hope Mills around 4:30 a.m. with a man she appeared to know.

Jermaine March, the man detectives believe was with Peets, was being questioned at the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Monday morning.

Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to call the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office at (910) 323-1500.
