Dunn Church Destroyed By Fire

Posted Updated

DUNN, N.C. — Sunday's 10 a.m. worship service at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church will be held in the front yard of the church as the result of a fire that destroyed the church Saturday.

Pastor Floyd Ray said the 80-year-old church at 9030 Harnett Dunn Highway, a landmark in the Dunn community, was totaled. He said he will let the congregation know Sunday what the plans are for rebuilding and future services.

No one was injured in the fire that started in the classroom area around 4 a.m. Saturday and spread throughout the church. Investigators said they do not suspect arson, although the cause of the fire was unknown Saturday night.

The Plainview Fire Department and several other fire departments were called to the scene. The Harnett County Sheriff's Office was unable to give an estimate on the damage.
