Belhumeur was stopped for a traffic violation Friday while driving a rental van from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., on I-95 near the 52-mile marker. He was headed south from New York.
Belhumeur consented to a search of his vehicle. Deputies discovered 62.5 pounds of hydroponic marijuana in three black canvas bags in the cargo compartment. Deputies said he also was in possession of $10,000 in cash.
Hydroponic marijuana has a much higher THC level then traditionally-grown marijuana, with a street value of approximately $5,000 per pound.
Belhumeur is being held in the Cumberland County jail on a $250,000 secured bond. He will make a first appearance in district court Monday at 9 a.m.
