Posted Updated

SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. — Sampson County is a little closer to getting a new jail.

The federal government approved the county for a $9 million loan.

Sampson officials say they have found a possible location at Fontana Street in Clinton. Once officials settle on a site, they plan to buy the property and begin construction.

The jail could house as many as 250 inmates.
