DOT Crews Reopen Eastbound I-40 Ramps While Closing Westbound Ramps

Posted September 22, 2003

— Drivers are hitting another roadblock off Interstate 40 in the Triangle.

The State Department of Transportation reopened the eastbound exit to Highway 54 and promptly closed the westbound exits (Exits 273 A and B). During this time, motorists should use the following signed detours:

  • I-40 westbound motorists needing to exit on N.C. 54 should travel to U.S. 15-501 (Exit 270) to I-40 east to N.C. 54 (Exit 273).
  • N.C. 54 motorists needing to travel on I-40 West should travel I-40 East to N.C. 751 (Exit 274) to I-40 West.
  • The ramps will remain closed for about 35 days. State Department of Transportation crews are repaving the ramps as part of the I-40 widening project.
