Mudcats Add To Triangle's Baseball Strength With Southern League Championship

ZEBULON, N.C. — It has been a banner year for baseball in the Triangle.

First, the Durham Bulls won the International League championship for the second straight season. Now, the Carolina Mudcats have captured their own championship.

The Mudcats won Game 5 of the best-of-five Southern League championship series, beating Huntsville 4-1. Carolina won the title for the second time, following six straight losing seasons.

Matt Padgett was the Mudcats' hero, driving in all four runs.
