Zebulon Teacher Resigns To Contest Criminal Charges

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — According to the Wake County Public School System, Zebulon Elementary School teacher Christopher Journigan has resigned his position so he can devote his attention to contesting criminal charges against him.

Journigan was suspended with pay last month after being charged with eight counts of first-degree statutory sexual offense against a minor. The charges were related to offenses that allegedly occurred from May 14, 2002, to July 17, 2003, while the victim was one of Journigan's students.

Journigan has denied the charges and said he is determined to prove his innocence.

The Wake County Public School System said Journigan established an excellent employment record and has placed this matter in the hands of the judicial system.
