New Nash County Projects Will Not Have To Be Built Above Floodplain

Posted Updated

NASH COUNTY, N.C. — The fight over rebuilding in flood zones is over in Nash County.

Commissioners will not force new construction projects to sit two feet above the floodplain.

The new flood maps are in response to Hurricane Floyd. Instead, homes and businesses only have to be 1 foot above the high water level.

Raising buildings would have saved people money on flood insurance, but it would have cost them even more in construction costs.
