Chapel Hill OKs UNC Chiller Plant, Parking Deck Plans

Posted Updated

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Heated debate will not stop the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from building a water chiller plant in the college town.

The Chapel Hill Town Council approved UNC-Chapel Hill's plan to build an air conditioning plant and parking deck in the middle of a historic district Tuesday evening.

Dozens of people for and against the plan attended Monday's town council meeting, which lasted three hours.

UNC wants to build the plant behind the Cobb dorm and Paul Green Theatre.
