Wayne County Couple Suing Former Teacher They Claim Abused Their Son

Posted Updated

ROSEWOOD, — The parents of an 11-year-old Wayne County boy who say their son was physically abused by a teacher at Rosewood Elementary school are suing.

Ralph and Tammy Meyers name teacher Beverly Parker and two school administrators in the lawsuit. They are seeking $20,000 in compensatory damages. The couple said the abuse happened two years ago.

Parker since has retired.

The Meyers' suit is not the only school-related lawsuit pending in Wayne County. Earlier this month, a family filed a $40 million lawsuit. Jim and Debbe Meeker claim their son, Bob, was repeatedly slapped on the stomach when he was a freshman wrestler at Rosewood High School.

The suit alleges the coach encouraged the hazing. The Meekers want the school to fire the coach, establish a hazing policy and offer a public apology.

School leaders defend their policies but will not comment on the lawsuit.
