The chase started in Zebulon when Officer Bob Grossman saw Jeffrey Brown speed past him. Last month, Brown's license was revoked by Grossman. Reaching speeds of 110 miles per hour, Grossman followed Brown down winding back roads through Wake, Franklin and Nash counties.
Grossman said he was worried that something bad may happen during the chase.
"Well, you're always worried and I think if you're worried a little bit, it keeps you more prepared. It keeps you on your edge that you're looking for something to happen," he said.
At one point, the chase reached a point north of Pilot where a school bus had stopped to pick up students. Brown's car passed by the school bus without stopping.
After 10 minutes and 20 miles, Brown slowed down and calmly pulled into a parking space at the Bunn Fire Department. Brown is charged with eluding police, passing a stopped school bus and other chase-related charges.
Zebulon Police Chief Tim Hayworth said Grossman did the right thing. He said there was less risk to the public with dry conditions on lightly traveled roads. He said he would have called the chase off if it had turned into more populated areas.
