— A Raleigh woman says her survival instinct kicked in when she attacked an intruder in her home with a bedpost earlier this month.

Victoria Jones said she was undressing to take a shower on Jan. 13 when she saw a man approaching her down her hallway.

The wooden bedpost was the first thing Jones said she saw.

She reached for it, and when the man got near her, "I nailed him," she said.

By that point, Jones' 10-year-old sister, Chelsea Massey, had run to a neighbor's house for help.

"We were just playing with the dog, and he just walked in," Massey said. "I was thinking, 'What if I screamed, and he could have did something to me and my nephew, and then my life would have been over."

Jones' 9-year-old son was in the den at the same time as Jones hit the intruder, chasing him all the way down the hall to the front door.

"I hit him that one last time, and he just went out cold," she said.

Neighbors arrived at the house to help and held the man until police arrived.

Raleigh police charged Lucio Miranda, 40, with first-degree burglary and first-degree possession of stolen goods. A search warrant indicates that investigators found a key to a Buick that belonged to Jones in his possession.

He was treated at a local hospital for a black eye, a broken ankle and a head injury and was later taken to the Wake County jail where he was being held Monday on a $108,000 bond.

"What I am scared of is about what could have happened, and that's why I gave it all I had," Jones said. "I didn't know what his plans were and what would happen to my kids if I didn't do the best I could to get him out of here."

I imagine she didn't say "go outside and get your switch". She probably said "I got it right here, let me just take it off the bed"..

"Well done......should've hit him one more time for good measure and then checked his green card to see if he was legally burglarizing your home."

NO ONE can *legally* burglarize a home. ALL burglary is illegal.

"I feel sorry for this dude at the Wake County Jail when he tries to explain to the other prisoners how he got that black eye. They are going to laugh him right out of the jail."

RIGHT ON! Good for her! I'm glad she knocked him out and they caught him.

By the way, my husband has an uncle only three years older than him and he was 16 when his sister was born. My best friend has a niece who is about 18 months younger than she is. What happens is, families have kids, then wait several years and have another one. It's not that outlandish.

"So, she has a 10yr old sister and a 9yr old son????"
And your point is. My brother and my nephew are only a few years apart. My sister got married young and had a child when she was early 20's. My mom had a "menopause" baby early 40's...so....do the math. And quit trying to start something. I bet people think twice before trying to go into her house again.

When most people go clubbing at a bar they end up drunk and in bed. He was clubbed by a bed and ended up behind bars!
