Judge Dismisses Worthless Check Charges Against Mother Of Onslow Woman

Posted Updated

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Charges were dismissed Friday against a woman charged with writing worthless checks in Wayne County.

Mary Grace Turner told the judge that her daughter, Mary Alice Turner, stole checks out of her purse and had police reports to prove it. The judge dropped the charges.

Mary Alice Turner is the woman who lost five children and a grandchild in a fire at her Onslow County mobile home in June.

Mary Alice Turner still faces 17 counts of forgery and obtaining property by false pretenses in Johnston County.

Authorities in Johnston and Sampson counties said they had been trying to track down Mary Alice Turner for years. They said she had been living under a false name and had been moving her family to elude law enforcement.
