SBI Investigates After Cumberland Deputy Fires Weapon

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting involving a deputy in Cumberland County.
While responding to a domestic disturnance on Ministry Lane, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said Deputy Dwayne Barber , 32, saw someone in a field off Sids Mill Road firing a long gun in the direction of other deputies on Ministry Lane.
Sheriff Moose Butler said Barber made numerous failed attempts to get the subject's attention and ordered him to stop firing. Barber reportedly fired one round. No one was injured and there have been no charges filed.
The deputy is on paid leave pending the investigation. Barber has been has been with the department since 1999.
