Eight-Car Accident Shuts Down I-40 In Durham

DURHAM, N.C. — An eight car pile-up brought traffic to a screeching halt on I-40 Sunday.

According to the Highway Patrol, the accident happened just after 4 p.m. near the Fayetteville Road exit. A driver came to a complete stop in the middle lane, leading to a chain reaction that caught seven more cars.

One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Troopers funneled traffic down to one lane for 90 minutes or so.

Both lanes re-opened at about 5:30 p.m.
