Durham Police Investigate Death Of Pedestrian

DURHAM, N.C. — A pedestrian died Thursday night after being struck by a van on North Alston Avenue near Holloway Street.
The pedestrian was identified as Brian Keith Bittle, 35, of North Hyde Park Avenue. He was taken to Duke University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead Thursday night.
Bittle got out of a pickup truck that had stopped for traffic. He ran out from between two vehicles into the path of a van driven by 22-year-old Armando Govea of Durham, according to a preliminary investigation.
The accident happened at 8:27 p.m.
There was no indication that speed or alcohol were factors in the accident. No charges have been filed, but the accident remains under investigation.
