<b>DURHAM, N.C.</b> — A retired English teacher is awaiting trial on charges of kidnapping, simple assault and crimes against nature.

According to police, John Troxler abducted a 20-year-old man and kept him for several hours at his house in Durham. The man apparently escaped after several attempts.

Troxler, who is 55 years old, retired last month after 21 years at the North Carolina School of Science and Math.
