Woman Unharmed After Car Drives Into Dry Cleaners

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — There was a wild scene in a Raleigh shopping center Tuesday.

An elderly woman drove her car off the road, then over the sidewalk, and crashed into a dry cleaning business.

The accident occurred on Crabtree Blvd. just off Capital Blvd. No one was hurt.

The driver, 78-year-old Thelma Johnson Roundtree, said she was trying to stop in a parking space. She accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake, jumped the curb and went through the window of T.J.'s Cleaners at 2423 Crabtree Blvd.

Damages to the business were estimated at $5,000.

No charges were filed. But the investigating officer made a recommendation for DMV to re-evaluate Roundtree's drivers license.
