Mother Of Toddler Killed In Hit-And-Run Wants Answers

Cynthia Macedo said since the day her daughter, Ariana Harris, was born, the two were hardly seperated.Earlier this month, Macedo sent her 20-month-old daughter to Pennsylvania to spend some time with relatives.

Ariana died in a hit-and-run accident while returning home on July 10. Her two aunts and four cousins were also in the car.

"I hadn't seen her in 10 days. I didn't hear her voice or get any last kisses. I didn't get anything," Macedo said.

Henderson police said the vehicle the toddler was riding in was traveling southbound on Interstate 85 near Ruin Creek Road when it was clipped from the back by what police believe was a small blue car. The vehicle with the toddler spun out of control and hit a tractor-trailer. Ariana was ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the blue car took off.

Chief Glen Allen of the Henderson Police Department said he is not optimistic about finding the driver. I-85 stretches from Virginia to Alabama. He said there is no telling where the car was headed.

"As of today, some 11 days after the accident, we are no closer to identifying the driver than we were that afternoon," he said. "It's extremly possible that with all this traffic, maybe someone saw the accident and just didn't want to get involved."

With few leads to go on, Macedo's hopes of finding the driver are fading, as well.

"He's riding around in the street not caring and my baby's gone," she said.
