DURHAM, N.C. — A jailer will not lose her job for sleeping while two inmates looked for an escape.
The sheriff's office says a malfuntioning lock let the inmates get out of their cells last month. An internal investigation found they were walking around the cellblock while jailer Cassandra Crews slept.
The sheriff's office says Crews has been punished, but officials would not give details.
County records show she has not been fired.
