Fayetteville Authorities Charge Mother In 2-Year-Old's Death

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police have charged a mother in the death of her own child.

Authorities say the mother, 21-year-old Natasha Pratt, is charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter and three counts of felony child abuse.

Emergency medical personnel were called to Pratt's house around 1 p.m. Wednesday when they found her 2-year-old son, Kenneth Pratt, was not breathing and her other children, 1-year-old Jaquon Pratt and 4-month-old Natalyia Pratt, were having breathing problems.

Authorities later found that the children had been left outside in a car during the hot weather. According to the arrest warrant, authorities say leaving Kenneth Pratt in the car resulted in environmental hyperthermia, which caused heatstroke.

Authorities say Kenneth Pratt died at the hospital. The other two children are on life support and listed in critical condition in the hospital.

Authorities say Pratt turned herself in to police. Family members say Pratt would never intentionally harm her children.
