<b>CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C.</b> — A Cumberland County man will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing his wife.

Damian Franceschi pleaded guilty to stabbing his wife, Shalamar Franceschi, in 2002. Franceschi also pleaded guilty to rape and kidnapping for other attacks against his wife.

His lawyer arranged a plea to avoid the death penalty.
