Quintiles Promotes CFO Ratliff To COO Post, Also Adds Him To Board

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — John Ratliff, an executive with

Quintiles Transnational

, received a double promotion on Monday.

The global contract research organization promoted Ratliff to chief operating officer and also named him to the company's board of directors. Ratliff had been Quintiles' chief financial officer since joining Quintiles in 2004.

The COO post is a new one for Quintiles.

Ratliff reports directly to Dennis Gillings, Quintiles' founder, chairman and chief executive officer.

A long-time executive with IBM, Ratliff was CFO at Acterna before joining Quintiles. He received an undergraduate degree in industrial and systems engineering at Georgia Tech and a master's degree in business from Duke.

"The creation of the chief operating officer role highlights our strong commitment to exceptional service delivery and demonstrates the depth of our internal management strength," Gillings said. "John has made a significant impact on our operations management as CFO. His commitment to operational improvements, along with his understanding of our company and industry, make John the ideal person for this role."

Mike Troullis, senior vice president and worldwide controller, will act as Quintiles' interim CFO.
