Cary Council Race Down To 2

Posted Updated

CARY, N.C. — The Town Council narrowed the list of candidates for an open seat from five to two on Tuesday.

Either Dick Domann or Erv Portman will fill the unexpired at-large council seat vacated in July by Michael Joyce.

Council members will evaluate the two candidates over the next few weeks before making a final decision.

Domann has worked for GlaxoSmithKline for 23 years and currently serves as the drug maker's representative for the Cary and Morrisville chambers of commerce.

Portman founded Weststar, a contract manufacturing company specializing in precision devices. He has previously been appointed to Cary committees, including the Planning and Zoning Board, the Town Center Review Commission and the Mayor's Task Force on School Assignment.

Two weeks ago, council members culled the list of 37 applicants to five semifinalists. The other three semifinalists were James Dixon, Vickie Maxwell and Carol Aupperle.
