Jon Rhodes was arrested at a Lumberton motel after Lumberton police received a tip that Rhodes had been spotted there. Dunn police brought Rhodes to Harnett County, where two businesses had been robbed.
The two-county crime spree began about 7:30 p.m. Monday at a Johnston County Scotchman convenience store on N.C. Highway 210 at Interstate 40. Investigators said Rhodes, 28, whose city of residency was not immediately clear, went into the store, claimed he had a weapon, grabbed the cash register and fled.
Authorities said Rhodes then headed south to Harnett County, where at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, he robbed Saddler's Truck Stop on Interstate 95 just north of Dunn. In that case, the robber also took the entire cash register.
Then, at 10:30 a.m., investigators said Rhodes robbed a BB&T bank branch on Cumberland Street in Dunn.
Rhodes faces several charges. In Johnston County, authorities charged him with robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the convenience-store robbery.
Harnett County authorities charged Rhodes with felony larceny for a robbery in connection with the truck stop robbery; and Dunn police charged him with robbery with a deadly weapon in connection with the BB&T robbery.
According to court records, Rhodes has a long criminal history, and he recently pleaded guilty in New Hanover County to charges of felony breaking and entering and felony larceny.
