KINSTON, N.C. — An apparent gun battle between grandparents and their grandson left one man dead and a wounded man on the run, Lenoir County authorities said Tuesday.

Sheriff's investigators said Robert Bryant, 69, was killed and his wife, Mildred Bryant 66, was wounded at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Dobbs Farm Road and Rouse Road, just east of Kinston.

Their grandson, Marlon Williams, who is in his 30s, may have been injured and fled the scene, authorities said.

Mildred Bryant was taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital, but her medical condition was not immediately clear Monday afternoon.

Investigators said they were not sure what happened to cause the shooting.
