RALEIGH, N.C. — For the first time, Forbes' list of the
400 richest Americans
includes nothing but billionaires. And two North Carolina technology leaders are on the list.
Jim Goodnight and John Sall, who co-founded Cary-based SAS 30 years ago, rank 52nd and 140th respectively. Forbes estimated the two entrepreneur's holdings at $4.5 billion and $2.2 billion.
C.D. Spangler, Jr. of Charlotte ranks 117th with a fortune estimated at $2.5 billion.
Racing magnate Bruton Smith of Speedway Motorsports and Sonic Automotive ranks 278th at $1.4 billion.
The 400 billionaires' wealth totals $1.25 trillion, up from $1.12 trillion a year ago.
