The area affected is from the intersection of Cornwallis Road at N.C. Highway 42 north to the Wake County line. This includes all water services connected to the water line on Cornwallis, New Bethel and Winston roads and includes all residential subdivisions on or off those roads.
A water line has been shut down as crews move the line because of the U.S. Highway 70 bypass project around Clayton.
The North Carolina Public Water Supply Section asked for the notice to be issued as a precautionary measure. Pressure loss on the water line increases the potential for the water system to become contaminated, officials said.
The notice is in effect until the work is completed and water samples have been analyzed, which could be as early as Tuesday evening, officials said. Water should be boiled for at least three minutes before drinking or using water to make ice or brush teeth.
