Hundreds Lose Power After Pinehurst Substation Fails

PINEHURST, N.C. — About 2,000 businesses and residences in the tony community of Pinehurst were without power Wednesday afternoon after an electrical substation failed, authorities said.
Progress Energy crews have been working on upgrading the substation near Main Street and N.C. Highway 211 and had brought in a mobile substation. Power on the mobile substation failed at about 1:15 p.m.
Crews brought another mobile substation to the area, and Progress Energy officials said power was restored to all customers by 8 p.m. Wednesday.
