Posted Updated

ATLANTA — Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer was in an Atlanta hospital Wednesday, two days after seeking medical attention for chest pains.

Beamer was vacationing with his family at his lakefront home near Atlanta when he started having chest pains Monday night, Tech director of football operations John Ballein said.

The coach saw a doctor in the area and planned to fly home to be examined by his personal physician but was advised to go to the hospital instead.

A statement from the hospital, posted on Beamer's Web site, said he was admitted "for observation and further studies."

The statement also said Beamer underwent a coronary exam that showed nomajor blockages.

"His condition is quite stable, and it is anticipated he will be discharged in the next few days," the statement said.
