Cabbies Want 42 Percent Increase To Raleigh Fares

RALEIGH, N.C. — A 5-mile taxi ride in Raleigh for $17 could be right around the corner.
Taxi industry officials asked the city for a 42 percent rate increase. Cabbies said that despite rising gas costs, they haven't seen a hike in years.
If it passes, Raleigh would be the most expensive place to catch a cab in the state. Mayor Charles Meeker said an increase is likely, but probably not the requested 42 percent.
