DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham man faces murder charges after the recent death of a woman he was convicted of shooting almost eight years ago.
Rodney Thomas Melvin, 30, was arrested Friday afternoon in connection with the death of 30-year-old Christina Cozart.
Authorities said Cozart died on June 11 of complications from a gunshot wound she sustained in 1998. An autopsy was conducted and the cause of death was ruled a homicide, said authotities.
Melvin was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon in 1999 in connection with Cozart's shooting. He was released from prison in 2004.
Authorities said the new charge was filed against Melvin after investigators received the autopsy findings and after consulting with the Durham County District Attorney's Office.
